We are now having problems with too many people visiting us and too many at the Clevedon Farmers Market wanting rides. For 20 years we have never worried about too much business! It is so hard to say "no, we are fully booked" when people come all the way from Auckland without booking but there is no alternative. We only have a 10 ha farm, 10 horses and staff to suit our needs. We do our best to accommodate you but if you arrive without having booked, you wil probably be turned away.
Gina is now managing the farm. Her love of the animals and kind personality with our visitors makes me feel happy to know that everything is well looked after.
When you come for your party or farm tour, Gina will show you the rabbits which are her pride and joy and be aware that quietness and care are essential when you are with them.
Basic riding lessons are in demand. These will recommence soon. We do a 4 lesson course for $195 by appointment weekly Monday to Saturday. Maximum number is 4 students. Details under Beginner Riding Lessons. I am using 40 years of learning experience from national and international instructors for this course. I have always felt that we should know a lot more about horses before we jump on their backs and say "let's go!" and hold onto a bridle with a harsh bit in their mouths and steer them like a motor bike.
The latest change for us is we are now working seven days a week at the farm instead of struggling down to the Clevedon Farmers Market every Sunday with 3 loads of horses etc. On Sundays we will provide the Market with our usual petting area but the horse rides will be here at the farm. At 81 years of age, I decided that it was time to not get up about 6 a.m. on Sundays and just enjoy going to church without all the hard work beforehand.
Gina's partner, Dan, has offered to organize the petting area at the market from 9 a.m. to midday so he will start in a couple of weeks. Meantime Gina will take the animals to the market while we look after anyone who wants their $10 market rides at our place between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and we will do farm tours and parties on Sundays now as well. Let's hope people will be happy with these changes.
Have a Happy New Year
